Safe Standing
On 8 November 2018, the Trust organised a presentation on the German-style rail seating system by the manufacturers. In attendance were representatives from all the emergency services, Trust members and the club board as well as local council and health and safety representatives. Informed discussion followed.
Feedback from the meeting was extremely positive and the project was ratified for ‘Trust in Killie’ funding at the Trust’s Annual General Meeting a few weeks later.
In just over a year, funding was secured. Two rail seating sections were installed in the East and Moffat Stands and opened for business at the home against St. Johnstone on 4 December 2019.
Rail seating comprises a safety barrier and retractable seats on each row. The seats can be locked and unlocked from an upright position at any time.
Kilmarnock FC were the first club in Europe to install a safe standing area in a family stand. We also have the first standing sections in the UK entirely funded by fans.
